The most common species of cockroach or roach found in association with people is the German cockroach. Other common species include Oriental, and Brown Banded. Modern roaches have existed virtually unchanged for at least 150 million years. They are one of the world’s most adaptable insects.

a large insect, 2 ˝ cm long, almond shaped, Chestnut brown to black in colour, shiny appearance, not particularly fast moving
1 ˝ cm long, similar appearance to German but with 2 light coloured bands across the wings.
very rare in southern Ontario, very large, 3-3 ˝ cm, flies, light brown, fast moving.
Cockroaches are very elusive and only come out at night, which means often the home owner has no idea their house is infested until there are many insects present. Their flat bodies make it easy for them to squeeze into cracks to hide during the day. The German roach is by far the most common roach pest species in Ontario. It is small, fast and breeds more quickly than other species. It carries its eggs on its back giving its young a lower mortality rate. All three species of roaches commonly found in Ontario are omnivores (can eat plant and animal matter) and can eat a wide variety of foodstuffs.
Roaches are capable of transmitting a long list of bacteria, parasites and other pathogens. Recent medical studies indicate they may even cause asthma and contribute to the spread of many allergens.
Pest Control Services - Cockroach
Many people find the presence of roaches in their house to be a source of embarrassment.
They associate roaches with unsanitary living. In fact, we see cockroaches living and multiplying in the cleanest of kitchens. Their ability to find food seems to be considerably better than our ability to clean. Some of the many ways roaches may be brought home are in boxes or with groceries. Occasionally people bring roaches home from vacations in the southern U.S. or Caribbean. Their mild winter temperatures allow cockroaches to multiply outdoors year round. Many residences in Texas and Florida are treated monthly. Our roach pest control method follows 4 steps.
